Dr. Berry is Professor and Leader of the South Dakota Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit. He has been a faculty member in the Department since 1985. His teaching responsibilities involve graduate-level courses Fish Structure and Function (WL 714) and Stream Ecology and Management (WL 719). Dr. Berry also advises and mentors graduate students.

Dr. Berry’s research expertise is primarily in fish ecology and physiology. His current research includes extensive work on fish communities in South Dakota streams and rivers. He has been instrumental in developing an aquatic Gap project in South Dakota. He also has Unit administrative responsibilities.

Under his leadership the South Dakota Cooperative Unit received the 1994 Division of Cooperative Research Award for Outstanding Science and the 2003 South Dakota Conservation Educator of the Year Award from the South Dakota Wildlife Federation. Dr. Berry was also named as a 1998 Berg Fellow by the Soil and Water Conservation Society.
