Three, two to three page written papers assigned. Class discussion and participation. Five to eight minute oral presentation by each student

Ichthyology

Three, two to five page written assignments. One/fifth of test questions partially graded on writing skills. One three-hour lab on scientific writing. One laboratory involves student oral presentations. Constant attempts to generate class discussion and participation.

Research paper. Two partial labs on scientific writing and data analysis. Frequent class discussion and participation.

Principles of Wildlife Management

Research proposal and a final paper (in journal style) required. One lab on a project proposal and scientific writing. Weekly class discussion participation.

Principles of Fisheries Management

One written management plan by group, typical length 10 to 15 pages. Class discussion and participation. Exams include essay format. Written lab exercises following presentation of introductory information.

Human Dimensions in Wildlife and Fisheries

Three exams – 1/4 or more of points from essay questions on 2 exams and one exam 75% essay. Three short written papers—grammar and style account for 10% of grade on the short papers.

Fisheries and Wildlife Biometrics

Statistical analysis and written interpretation of outputs (15 exercises).

 

ABS 475
Integrated (Meets University Advanced Writing Requirement)

Two, 20 minute oral reports. Two, 30 minute oral reports. Major final written report (40 to 75 pages). All oral reports also have written reports. All oral and written projects are critiqued and graded.

Not all students must speak or write, team decided.

Sophomore Seminar

Written resume required of all students. Practice interview sessions with agency personnel.

Senior Seminar

One, 10 to 15 minute oral presentation. Written abstract must be provided. Presentations are critiqued and graded.
